On the occasion of Valentine's Day, we present to you the terracotta figurine of Cupid (Eros)
and Psyche, which depicts their first kiss.
The Myth of Cupid and Psyche is probably the greatest love story preserved from the
Classical mythology till this day. A long and exciting tale about the life of the handsome
Psyche and her immense love for the god of love, Cupid. A tale with many plots and dramas,
but a story of love that even the gods can’t prevent. Nevertheless, it still has a happy ending
and a message that true love can transcend all boundaries, even those between humans and
gods. Our portrayal symbolizes Cupid and Psyche’s first kiss, i.e. the beginning of their
immortal love.
Although this depiction is more than 21 centuries old, it will still become an inspiration for
numerous Renaissance and modern artists who with their new works of art will preserve this
representation to this day as the most popular display of true love that everyone longs for.
Dated from the Roman period, 1st century AD, excavated at Stobi, Gradsko. Borrowed from
NI Stobi, for the needs of the permanent exhibition.
