The primary function of the Department of Conservation is conservation and restoration of the movable archaeological heritage. The laboratory conserves and restores various objects made from metal, pottery, glass and stone, mainly belonging to the museum collection and according to the capabilities and importance, conserves materials that belong to other institutions in Republic of North Macedonia.

The conservation of the objects is performed by expert conservators-restorers in the field of fine art and chemical technicians. In addition to its primary function, the laboratory traditionally produces souvenirs and replicas of some of the exhibits.
